The Liu house murder case had reached a deadlock, but this was a conjecture only Meng Yun had made.

But after some intense debates, the investigative team decided that the person in the gown was Liu Wei's wife, and that opinion had prevailed.

For the other investigators on his team, however, this case was as good as solved. The consensus was Tang Sen was engaged in an affair with Mrs. Liu, and as a result, Liu Wei, who was pushed into a jealous rage, imprisoned Tang Sen before murdering him, then he killed his own wife before escaping.

Even the large blood pool beside the bed was confirmed to be Liu Wei's via DNA testing.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: Part 1

What's more, he was confident, impressively confident that such a thing to that second unreasonable clue was precisely...

This sort of explanation, whether it was based on the motive of the killings or the clues left behind at the scene were both a natural reasoning for the incident as well as one that was consistent.

It was hard to believe Liu Wei would kill his wife then change her out of the white nightgown for another one before running off with the white nightgown.

Only Meng Yun, who sat amongst those team members, was alone and off to the side in silence. While his mood, unlike the light-hearted of his comrades, was still doubtful and heavy.

However, as far as he could decipher, Liu Wei was a suspect he had understood to have an extremely strong will and sense of perseverance, so such a back-pedalling, indecisive type of action was not at all in line wt his personality. However, it was to be remembered that there nothing in this world that was absolute.

So, in short, the investigation team were ready to close the case and the only issue at large was the capture of the fugitive, Liu Wei.

The murder case investigation was as good as done, and the team were all breathing easy once more.

Then, after forensic testing, it was determined to indeed be the same type and should've been from the same gown.

It was like the the current day with all those grey overcast clouds filling the sky. It wasn't something that pushed someone to the heights of happiness, but it also wasn't enough to sour the mood of the detectives in the office.

"Seriously?" Meng Yun was shocked, suspicious, curious, and... empty. With this, does it mean that I really was mistaken? Does this really men this was nothing but a simple murder case of a love affair gone wrong and there was nothing deeper? But... He did not feel as though he was wrong. Was this just me being obsessive? Was there truly no mysterious fourth suspect, did they not exist...

They were laughing, boisterous. The young male detectives were proudly telling dirty jokes while the two female detectives blushed and cursed those "shameless jerks" before going to avoid them on the other side.

It was wrapped in a bedspread and hidden in the basement, seeming to have been done so in a flurry given the torn piece of a white nightgown found with it. That person had tried to hide the jar in such a rush that the hem of the gown was possibly torn off when it was wound into bedspread. Maybe they was was just an accident, or maybe they didn't have the time, so this piece was left behind when they fled the scene quickly. And as a result, one key piece of info was ascertained from this piece of evidence: the person who did the hiding was definitely wearing a white night back then.

Only Meng Yun, who sat amongst those team members, was alone and off to the side in silence. While his mood, unlike the light-hearted of his comrades, was still doubtful and heavy.

The murder case investigation was as good as done, and the team were all breathing easy once more.

Yes, with regard to the motive and the look at crime scene, it was completely reasonable to say that Liu Wei was the killer!

So, in short, the investigation team were ready to close the case and the only issue at large was the capture of the fugitive, Liu Wei.

Even the large blood pool beside the bed was confirmed to be Liu Wei's via DNA testing.

However, as far as he could decipher, Liu Wei was a suspect he had understood to have an extremely strong will and sense of perseverance, so such a back-pedalling, indecisive type of action was not at all in line wt his personality. However, it was to be remembered that there nothing in this world that was absolute.

No, there's nothing—so you can't even tell anyone your guess. If they asked you to explain why you believed there was another person, what are you going to use as justification, huh? Are you going to mutter: Oh, there is no proof! None at all! All I got is my feeling—my intuition!

If... If there was a forth suspect amongst the three, and if the forth suspect was the wearer of the gown, then... the mystery of the missing nightgown would be solved, because the that fourth suspect would have run away wearing it!

But— For some reason, Meng Yun's heart couldn't be put at ease.

In addition, the body of Mrs. Liu which was found buried in a shallow grave in the grove behind the Liu's house, was also clutching a piece of a white nightgown in its hand. From observation, it was identical to the white fabric of the aforementioned nightgown.

As an officer of the law, it was his duty and responsibility to bring to justice the dangerous criminals who endanger people's lives and disrupt societal security, while preserving the innocence of those who are not guilty.

As for the mystery of white nightgown and the remains of the baby girl in the jar, the bulk of the members of the investigation team had decided to prioritize Liu Wei's capture then interrogating him about it.

But was there really a fourth suspect? Meng Yun had always trusted his intuition , but there was honestly no tangible evidence to suggest there really was a fourth suspect.

Meng Yun, of curse, didn't believe Liu Wei to be some innocent party either. It was true he had some degree of guilt.

Missing the true criminal to snag an innocent party instead is the greatest shame of a police officer!

So Meng Yun first made his way back home, where he had unexpectedly run into into his father, who had spent the past four years living in the States without ever once returning home. His father, whose name was Meng Zhaoxiong. He had no idea when the man had arrived there, nor why he gave no notice to himself or his mother.

Meng Yun, of curse, didn't believe Liu Wei to be some innocent party either. It was true he had some degree of guilt.

"Captain! Xiao Meng, Captain Xiao Meng!"

But...

But— Meng Yun thought to himself: Do you have anything prove it? Is there any evidence to prove this forth person was involved in this case, or anything that could distinctly show the role they had in it?

But Meng Yun still ad his doubts. Were the only people involved in this case really just Liu Wei, his wife and Tang Sen? Just these three people? Was there really no one else?

Honestly, he never had much of a good impression of this rough and tough looking father of his, who displayed little interest in both him and his mother throughout the years. So, to strike up a conversation, he just asked without much meaning behind it, "Is that cousin of mine doing okay? Is he well?"

1. Why did Mrs. Liu hide the jar with the baby girl's skeleton?

This sort of explanation, whether it was based on the motive of the killings or the clues left behind at the scene were both a natural reasoning for the incident as well as one that was consistent.

He then recalled his first visit to that crime scene—in that dark, damp basement of Liu Wei's that had become a scene shining in an aura of blood where he had an intriguing experience. It had seemed as though that amongst Tang Sen's corpse, Liu Wei's fugitive figure, and Mrs. Liu's murdered body there should've been another person whose figure exuded a faint trace of suffering in their aura...

Back then, it had all felt so vivid—so real! That person—that unknown person—seemed to be moaning and crying in his ears!

Good god, man! Don't go making a fool of yourself. One of the biggest things to avoid on a case is to rely and be controlled by one's intuition!

But, regardless of this debatable point, and the fierce arguing by the investigators, they still, for the most part, believe the owner of the gown and the one who hid the jar was Mrs. Liu.

Back then, it had all felt so vivid—so real! That person—that unknown person—seemed to be moaning and crying in his ears!

2. Why did he (or she) hide this glass jar?

Were they even a man, or were they a woman? I don't know, I have no idea! But my intuition is telling me they exist! Meng Yun's instincts and intuition told him this was not some simple murder case borne from adultery.

Perhaps, it was really a case of me being mistaken?

There has to be some deeper story behind the scenes! There must!

Regardless, Meng Yun still pondered over these matters deeply. The most pressing matter at hand was to find that missing nightgown. If I find it, that would at least prove a forth suspect existed, it was the key...

Yet... it wasn't at all unreasonable for a murderer to do such a thing. Maybe he wanted to run away in the beginning but fear or guilt had made him unable to bear living a life on the run so he returned to confess...

iana: the [...] is back. Oh, and Happy Halloween~

But— Meng Yun thought to himself: Do you have anything prove it? Is there any evidence to prove this forth person was involved in this case, or anything that could distinctly show the role they had in it?

He kept thinking everything over once more, slowly reaching yet another unreasonable conclusion in this new situation...If Liu Wei was the killer, and he came to confess to his crimes with no hesitation, then he could've surrendered right after committing the crimes, so why would he be on the run for so many days before coming in to confess to it all?

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: Part 1

Now there were three questions:

Good god, man! Don't go making a fool of yourself. One of the biggest things to avoid on a case is to rely and be controlled by one's intuition!

2. Where did the rest of the white nightgown go?

Now there were three questions:

Xiao Mao: "Yep! He confessed to all of it! Tang Sen, his wife—he said he killed them both! He's spitting everything out like beans in a bamboo tube all quick and easy. Hmph, even though he's heartless bastard, he really is a man!"

Meng Yun let out a sigh. I have no way to do it, and I can't make peace with that. Being a cop means acting according to the evidence is a must for handling a case. But within this pile of proof, there seems to be a few pieces of evidence that make no sense in such a clear cut case!

But was there really a fourth suspect? Meng Yun had always trusted his intuition , but there was honestly no tangible evidence to suggest there really was a fourth suspect.

Firstly, was the skeleton of a baby girl that was kept in a glass jar. It was found a couple days back when the investigating team went back to go over the crime scene, the Liu's basement, once more. (If Tang Hong still has memories of the matter, he would've been able to recall the conversation on the day Meng Yun had him in office and was told by an officer "We discovered something new at the Liu's place..." to which Meng Yun replied with shock: "What kind of thing...")

Only Meng Yun, who sat amongst those team members, was alone and off to the side in silence. While his mood, unlike the light-hearted of his comrades, was still doubtful and heavy.

N/A

Presently, Meng Yun's father was staring at him, his eyes as cold as ever, with nary a shred of warmth permeating is gaze as he replied in a flat tone, "Xiao Fei, huh? He's getting married."

1. Who was this person donned in the gown of white?

And because this case was "already solved" all they had to do was go looking for the escaped Mr. Liu. Liu Wei's motive and evidence supporting such were apparent, so there was absolutely no need for anyone to dig deeper into this case.

But was there really a fourth suspect? Meng Yun had always trusted his intuition , but there was honestly no tangible evidence to suggest there really was a fourth suspect.

That second unexplainable clue in the Liu's washroom was...

If... If there was a forth suspect amongst the three, and if the forth suspect was the wearer of the gown, then... the mystery of the missing nightgown would be solved, because the that fourth suspect would have run away wearing it!

So, alright, let's assume the owner of the white nightgown was indeed Mrs. Liu and she was the one who his the jar. Then the following questions now arise:

"What?" Meng Yun's jaw dropped, "With whom?!"

But, regardless of this debatable point, and the fierce arguing by the investigators, they still, for the most part, believe the owner of the gown and the one who hid the jar was Mrs. Liu.

The loud shout beside his ear practically jolted Meng Yun out of his seat!

2. Where did the rest of the white nightgown go?

What's more, he was confident, impressively confident that such a thing to that second unreasonable clue was precisely...

This inexplicably disappearing nightgown was another unexplained aspect of this case. The shallowly covered by grass Mrs. Liu was wearing a floral patterned pyjamas. The detectives had also searched every nook and cranny of of the Liu's house, yard, and basement, but no sign of that white nightgown could be found.

It was like the the current day with all those grey overcast clouds filling the sky. It wasn't something that pushed someone to the heights of happiness, but it also wasn't enough to sour the mood of the detectives in the office.

And that fourth suspect just doesn't exist, perhaps? Anyhow, despite him originally wanting to interrogate Liu Wei immediately, he was off the clock for the time being, so it was agreed he would do s later that afternoon.

But, Meng Yun thought to the contrary, that mysterious jar, missing nightgown, and the existence of that fourth person...

Xiao Mao, the cheerful female member of the investigation team, was standing in front of Meng Yun with her hands on her hips, leaning over as she stared down at him with a pair of large pretty eyes from a distance that was close enough for their noses to touch. "Captain, I've been shouting your name so loudly yet you didn't seem to hear a thing! What were even thinking about? Was it your girlfriend? Heehee."

That cousin of his (older cousin) was Meng Fei, and even though they hadn't seen each other in many years, they were actually on good terms. Meng Yun had never forgotten this outstanding and good looking cousin of his. He had also recalled how sad his cousin had seemed for a while, and heard he had grown even more depressed in the past recent years. Back in day, he had once gone to his uncle's with his mom, and his aunt had told him in secret that Meng Fei once had a really bad breakup during his college days, and even back then, he had not recovered from the shock.

In addition, the body of Mrs. Liu which was found buried in a shallow grave in the grove behind the Liu's house, was also clutching a piece of a white nightgown in its hand. From observation, it was identical to the white fabric of the aforementioned nightgown.

They were laughing, boisterous. The young male detectives were proudly telling dirty jokes while the two female detectives blushed and cursed those "shameless jerks" before going to avoid them on the other side.

Presently, Meng Yun's father was staring at him, his eyes as cold as ever, with nary a shred of warmth permeating is gaze as he replied in a flat tone, "Xiao Fei, huh? He's getting married."

Unless... he was completely wrong in the head.
